Prayer is a secondary combat skill in which you can call on the gods of Runescape to give yourself powers you normally would not have. As your Prayer skill grows higher, you will be able to perform much stronger prayers. The higher Prayer you have the longer your prayers will last. Prayer can be leveled up by burying various types of bones or completing certain quests. Bones can be obtained as drops from various monsters. Click on the variety bones in the table below to find out which bone is dropped by which monster.
There are many different types of prayers. Below is a table of each prayer and the effect it has when you use it. When using prayers, your Prayer points will be consumed. When you run out of Prayer points you will have to visit an altar to recharge them. Members can also drink Prayer potions to restore prayer.

These bones are obtained by killing the Zombie and Skeleton Ogres, picklocking coffins, or using a key on coffins. Fyrag and above are only available through coffins. You need to be Level 20 Thieving to picklock them, and if you fail, you can lose up to 3 thieving points.
In order to kill a Ghast, you must have completed the Nature Spirit Quest, be wielding a Silver sickle(b) (meaning blessed), and carry a filled Druid pouch. Walk next to a Ghast, and if it attacks you, one of the items in your Druid pouch will be used up, and then the Ghast can be attacked. Killing a Ghast provides you with 30 prayer experience.
You can cremate shade remains after the Shades of Mort'ton Quest. Here's a brief summary of the prayer experience obtained from burning shade remains.

One of the best ways to get the most prayer experience out of your bones is to worship the Ectofuntus. You get four times the prayer experience per bone than you would if you had normally buried the bones. To do this, you must have started the Ghosts Ahoy quest, though having completed the quest and having the Ectophial is a big plus.
After you have collected and banked a bunch of bones head to Port Phasmatys bank (wear your Ghostspeak amulet to make banking faster) and collect 12 pots and 12 bones. Go to the Ectofuntus tower, just north of Port Phasmatys (use the Ectophial if you posses one) and go up the stairs. Use one set of bones on the bone grinder and it will automatically grind all the bones in your inventory into bonemeal and full up the pots in your inventory with the Bonemeal. Once you have all 12 bones ground and in the pots, go back to the bank and grab 12 buckets. Go back to the Ectofuntus tower again and this time go through the trap door to the west of the Ectofuntus. Work your way down to the bottom of the four levels, and fill your 12 buckets with slime from the pool at the bottom. When you are done, go back to the main floor (This would be a good time to use the Ectophial.) Now you should have 12 pots of Bonemeal, and 12 Buckets of slime in your inventory. Click on the Ectofuntus to worship it. Each time you worship the Ectofuntus, one Bonemeal and one Ectoplasm will be used up. You will not be able to worship more than 52 times without collecting the Ecto-tokens from the Ghost Disciple. Once you are done and have collected your Ecto-tokens, go back to the bank, deposit the buckets, grab 12 more bones, and repeat the process.
Note: You can also buy Buckets of slime at the Charter ship docks.

Wise Man in Draynor - For performing tasks for him he will reward you with random amounts of prayer experience.
Player-owned houses brought a new way to gain prayer experience. Depending on the type of altar built and the burners used, one can earn anywhere from 100% to 350% of the experience normally obtained for burying bones. 100% means exactly the same experience as just burying. Note that the highest possible level (350%) does not exceed the 400% from the Ectofuntus - however, there is no tedious bucket hauling and bone grinding.
The main feature of the chapel is the altar and incense burners. You can recharge your Prayer in the chapel as normal. There is an important extra feature to the altar: depending on your altar and the number of incense burners you have lit, you will be awarded more Prayer experience for the bones you offer.
