Introduction

Money-making is something which requires time, efforts and sometimes even money to start with. For some people, it's easy to let the millions roll in, and for others, it's a great achievement to see that '100K' on your coin pile. This guide will explain you how to manipulate your skills. You may find that only a few, maybe even one or two, will actually suit you. Depending on your level, the skills mentioned may or may not suit you. This applies to ALL skills.

The aspects or skills which can be more fully utilized are:

Combat:

If you are a high leveled combat, there are some monsters which drop good items, though they are scarce and the place would usually be quite packed (Hence more of the tendency for Kill-Stealers, who are people who basically just walk in and take your monster that you were waiting for to spawn and then kick you out of your spot.

Some good F2P monsters which are good to kill would be Lesser Demons (level 82). Moss Giants (level 42), and Hill Giants (level 28) drop limpwurt roots the best F2P bones, Big bones. Limpwurt roots are used by members to train Herblore. Profitable monsters on members worlds are mainly Slayer monsters and Dragons. For lower leveled players Chaos Druids are a great way of earning money as they drop several herbs.

As you can see, being a P2Per is very beneficial in terms of using Combat to earn money, and this applies to many other skills too. A big advantage in being part of the P2P is the bonus 'Clue Scroll' drop. Also known as treasure trails/hunts, these are mini-quests which take you to places in Runescape step-by-step until you get your prize. These prizes can sometimes earn you a lot of money - Especially the Level 3 Clues. Bear in mind that you can only have one Clue Scroll at a time, and Level 3 clues are very challenging!

Runecrafting:

Runecrafting is a wonderful way to make money starting at level 44. You should only craft Nature runes (requires 44 Runecrafting), Law runes (requires 54 Runecrafting), Death runes (requires 65 Runecrafting), or Blood runes (requires 77 Runecrafting). Law or Nature runes make the most profitable runes to make. Once you reach level 91 you should go strait to double Nature runes at the Abyss. Always use the Abyss for these Runes (requires the Mage of Zamorak Mini-Quest). Also, this Mini-Quest gives you the ability to use Pouches. Pouches are EXTREMELY useful for Mining AND Runecrafting Essence. They hold Essence for you but do get damaged after a while. With the release of the Summoning skill Nature runecrafters have developed a new way of training using the teleport capability of Spirit graahks. This capability teleports you near to the Nature Altar. When you use the Abyss you should always use a charged amulet of glory to teleport to and restock at Edgeville. However using the Spirt graahk method you can buy a Ring of duelling at a cheaper price than the Amulet of glory and have more teleports, teleport to Castle Wars and then restock and use your graahk to get to the altar. The Abyss enables you to craft up to 10k essence approximately 8 hours.

Crafting:

Unless you are a member crafting is useless to you in terms of earning a lot of money quickly.

Battlestaff is the most profitable way of earning money by crafting. What you do is you buy battlestaffs from Zaff (In varrock. The first staff costs 7,000gp, and the next 4 of them costs slightly more. Zaff stocks up 7 at a time. You can however only buy a certain amount of battlestaffs per. Completing the tasks of the Varrock Achievement Diary allows you to buy more staff one a daily basis (Easy: 16, Medium: 32, Hard: 64). After getting the amount of battlestaffs you want, you will need glass orbs. If you buy them, you do not make money. Therefore you should make the glass orbs yourself by using buckets of sand and soda ash on a furnace. You then have to use Glassblowing pipe with the molten glass, to make glass orbs (level 46 Crafting required). With the glass orbs in your inventory, you must 'charge' them first. This charging is done at elemental obelisks. Each obelisk requires you to have a specific magic level before you are able to charge orbs. The easiest orbs is Water Orbs as they require level 56 Magic, 30 Water Runes, and 3 Cosmic Runes. The Water and Fire obelisks are found in the deeper parts of the Taverly dungeon. Head west of the Black dragons to find the Fire Obelisk, and head upstairs (onto the small island south of the Catherby Fishing Shore) to find the Water Obelisk. The Air and Earth Obelisks are found in the Wilderness. The Earth obelisk can be accessed through the members only section of the Edgeville Dungeon. The Air Obelisk is located just north of Earth obelisk, beyond the Black Demons and up the ladder. You will surface at about level 5 wilderness. Upon completing the Hard task of Varrock's Achievement Diary you unlock the ability to buy more staffs than normal from Zaff every 24 hours.

Crafting dragonhide bodies are only a good method of earning money when you obtain the hides yourself. Perhaps the most common method to make money by Crafting is picking (or buying) Flax and spinning it in Lumbridge Castle. This method is fast, easy, and only requires 10 crafting. Bow strings are worth around 200 coins each.

Mining:

One of the 'Big Three' - or the three primary money-making skills - is Mining. Generally the best ore to mine for experience and money is iron ore or coal. Both respawn fairly quickly sell for a decent amount of money. For higher level miners, both nonmembers and members, the best method to earn money by mining is to mine mithril and adamant ores. Because of the fact that these rocks respawn very slow, most miners hop worlds to get as many ores in a short period of time as possible. Those members who have completed the Enahakras Lament quest can mine Granite at the quarry, located in the desert.

When you reach level 85 mining, mining runite is one of the best ways of making money as each or sells for 11-12.5 K. But bear in mind that amount of runite rocks in the whole of runescape is limited. For nonmembers the only place to mine runite is at level 46 of the Wilderness, north of the lava maze. As a member you have access to a few more runite rocks. The most common accessed locations are in the basement of the Heroes Guild (2 rocks), and on the island of Neitiznot (1 rock). The only downside of runite is its long respawn-time. It takes 10-20 minutes to respawn, depending on how occupied that world is.

The mining of rune and pure essence is an easy and fast method to earn money for newer and experienced players with a low mining level. This method does however require the completion of the Rune Mysteries quest. If you are a member and have 66 Mage, you should mine pure Essence at the Wizard's Guild. Do remember to use essence pouches as they will allow you to mine and carry more essence per trip.

Gems are another merchandise, if you get lucky to obtain them while mining while mining other ores or have access to the Gem rocks in Shilo Village. Gems, both cut and uncut, sell for a decent amount of money. It is however time consuming to get these gems. Because it is rare for people to buy cut gems, leaving them uncut means you do not get any experience at all just money.

Smithing:

A branch out from mining, smithing is quite a good way to make money, but to do so you will need patience. As non-members smelting and selling Steel bars is the best method to make use of this skill. Large loads of steel bars can be sold for 550-600 coins each. Another great option are Mithril and Adamantite bars. These type of bars earn you 1.1K and 2.2-2.4K respectively. When you get to the level that allows you to smith runite items, you should do so as these items are in very high demand. Although runite bars on their own also earn you a fair bit of money.

As members, an extra bonus is the well-known Cannonball. After completing the Dwarf Cannon quest, you can get your hands on what is known as an 'Ammo Mould'. One steel bar will produce 4 Cannonballs, each worth between 150-200gp. That's 600 to 800gp per bar. For those members who do have not the level to smith either Steel bars or Cannonballs, smelting Iron bars is the best way to earn money using the smithing skill. The Ring of forging enables members to smith Iron bars without losing any of the ores.

The furnace to use for nonmembers is located in Al Kharid. For members who have completed the Easiest tasks of the Varrock Achievement Diary the furnace closest to a bank can be found in Edgeville. To make the most profit out of the Smithing skill, we advice you to mine your own ores.

Fishing:

Second of the Big Three - fishing is a good source of money. The main fish groups people buy are lobsters, swordfish, monkfish, and of course sharks. The best fishing spots close to a bank are located in Caterby and at the Fishing Guild. Another option for members is fishing for monkfish (requires completion of the Swan Song quest). Lobsters and swordfish are the only profitable fish to be caught on F2P worlds. The only place to caught lobsters and swordfish without have to fear for your live is on Musa Point (Karamja). In both F2P and members world you can exchange your fish for bank notes by talking to Stiles located south of the volcano. However note that he will only exchange lobster, swordfish, and tuna.

To make the most out of fishing, you should sell your fish raw. However if you are after Cooking experience, you can cook your catch and still make a lot of money.

Woodcutting:

Last of the Big Three, woodcutting is another good skill to have. For members it is advised advise to cut maples(FTP) until you can chop Yews. Once you have achieved a very high woodcutting level (85+) you would switch to cutting Magic logs. But keep in mind that obtaining one inventory of Magic logs may take a lot of time. The only options for nonmembers are oak, willow, and yew logs. Oak logs and planks are very popular with people training Construction. Therefore lower leveled members have the option to either just sell their oak logs, or to turn them into oak planks and making more money.

Best places to chop yew logs are south of Falador, behind Varrock's Castle, South of Edgevile bank, south of Seers Village, and near the Legends Guild. There are two places which provide a Magic trees close to a bank; south of the Seers bank, and near the agility course at the Gnome Stronghold.

At level 95, players who are members and have access to Prifddinas, are advised to chop Elder Trees for their logs. It is estimated to make over 600K coins on hourly rate by selling Elder logs. Elder trees take 5 minutes to cut down and 10 minutes to regrow, this means you need to select 3 Elder tree locations and move between those 3. You will get 12 - 16 logs on average per tree (per 5 minutes) which means you bank once per 2 trees.

Fletching:

A useful member skill to have, as you can make your own arrows with these levels. Mithril, Adamant, and Rune arrows sell well, especially rune arrows. Maple longbows and upwards are worth stringing and high alching. Selling Mithril, Adamant, Ruby (e) and Diamond (e) bolts make a good amount of money as they are used for ranging Dragons. For you lower leveled fletchers arrow shafts are the items to make.

Herblore:

Second member skill to touch upon; this is a very hard skill to raise and it requires a lot of time, effort and if you do not have money to start with, it will be very hard for you. The potions which sell well are prayer, fishing, agility, ranged, anti-fire and Super sets (a set of Super attack, Super strength and Super defence potions). Grimy herbs are good items to sell (1 to 2K gp each). At any level, a small profit can be made by buying herbs and turning them into unfinished potions.

At 25 herblore, there is a herb you can identify called Ranarr Weed! This is a very popular, high-in-demand herb. When grimy, these herbs sell for around 5K each. Once you reach 38 herblore, you can make one of the most popular potions is the Prayer Potion. These potions sell for 6-7k each, so you could buy ranarrs, and then sell the potions at 1k to 2k profit.

Thieving:

This is an unusual one, we must admit, but thieving can earn you money in a warped sense. What you do is steal whatever you can from the stall (hopefully without getting caught) and bank them. Stock them up and then when you happen to be at the town where the trader is located , just sell them back to the Trader. Silks stolen from the Ardougne stall can sell at the Al Kharid Silk Trader at 60gp each. Grey wolf fur from the fur stall in Ardougne sell for 120gp each to Baraek, the fur trader in Varrock. As well as raising thieving, you can sell these items to the specialized stall traders to earn some money. Do note that cakes is another favorite, from the Baker stall, as people don't sell the cake back to the baker but use it as a good food, and it is, especially for quests like Underground Pass.

Once you have completed Death to the Dorgeshuun quest there is another method you can use. One of the rewards from that quest is entry to the HAM storage area which is via a hidden trapdoor in the HAM hideout. This is behind the stage area where the guy is preaching, just right click and select picklock. When you do the quest you have to avoid the guards but after the quest is complete you can walk around without fear of attack. If they see you trying to open a room they will attack They are level 22 and just right click them to pickpocket them. You get four different types of keys, as well as the usual junk. There are four storage rooms, each with a door that can be picklocked. Inside each room there is a chest and if you have the correct key in your inventory clicking on the chest will open it and you get the treasure. The key is destroyed in the process.

Summoning:

A method to earn money through the summoning required lots of Spirit spider pouches (310-330 gp) and Egg Spawn Scrolls (30-35gp). All you do is summon a spider and keep spawning the Red spider eggs by using your summoning pet's special attack. Each used scroll will yield you 0-6 Red spider eggs. In order to actually make money you need to sell the Red spider eggs for 320-360 gp as many people working on herblore will buy them in large quantities.

The only pouches worth selling are beast of burden pouches. Bull ant, Spirit terrorbird, and War tortoise pouches are bought on a regular basis by skillers. Pouches often used for gathering pure essence are Abyssal parasites, Abyssal lurkers, Abyssal titans. Spirit graahk pouches are popular with Nature Runecrafters as they use them to teleport near the altar.

Merchanting:

Merchanting is still possible, even with the Grand Exchange and trade limits. It also happens to be easier than ever. The main idea behind this is short term investing in items, whether they be skill items or rares.

When first starting out, it is prudent that you familiarize yourself with prices before you begin investing. Spend a few days see what certain items cost what, and when you see prices that are lower than normal, buy as much ore as you want. In order to make any sizable profit, you will likely need to invest in two to ten thousand of the item, depending on how expensive it is. Now, you simply have to wait for the price raise. When prices do go up you sell the items. This is the most difficult part of short term item investment, because you never know whether the item will increase or decrease in price the next few days. Once you decide to sell the items, you can take your profit, find another item that is at a lower price than usual and invest in that. You will likely only make a few K gp a day if you are investing about one million gp, but it requires nearly no work, and you can focus on other forms of making money while doing this.
