So you are looking to gain some crafting experience, gain some magic experience, and make a little profit along the way?
Then Battle Staving is your answer.
This guide will take you through the process of gathering all of the items needed to create the Elemental Battle and the steps needed to make your own.
- For Water Battlestaff making: Level 56 Magic and Level 54 Crafting.
- For Earth Battlestaff making: Level 60 Magic and Level 58 Crafting.
- For Fire Battlestaff making: Level 63 Magic and Level 62 Crafting.
- For Air Battlestaff making: Level 66 Magic and Level 66 Crafting.
Items needed for each Battestaff
1 glass blowing pipe, 1 bucket of sand, 1 piece of seaweed, 3 cosmic runes, 30 elemental runes (determined by which Battlestaff you are making), and 1 Battlestaff along with 1 nature and 5 fire runes for High Alchemy.
Note: It is recommended that you bring a staff that carries the elemental rune that corresponds with the Orb you are trying to enchant.
These include Basic Elemental Staffs (Air, Water, Fire or Earth) or Elemental Battlestaves (Air, Earth, Water, Fire, Lava or Mud).
Remember that the Lava Battlestaff can be used for Fire and Earth orbs and the Mud Battlestaff can be used for the Water and Earth orbs.
This saves inventory space (on the 30 elemental runes per trip) allowing you to work more efficiently and economically.
To create the orb you need for your Battlestaff, you will need to cook your seaweed on a range to make soda ash.
+ Range, Fire or Lit Fireplace =
Next, mix 1 soda ash and 1 bucket of sand together in the furnace and you will create Molten Glass.
+ =
Finally use your Glass Blowing Pipe with the molten glass and make your orb.
+ = .
There are 5 places to obtain the seaweed you will need (and some other small ways shown in the "other" section further down): Rellekka, Entrana, Shilo Village, or the Piscatoris Fishing Colony. Before you run off and start collecting seaweed, you will need to know where the closest bank is and how many seaweed spawn spots are at each location.
Arhein right outside of Catherby bank sells you 80 seaweed everyday and 40 pineapples.
Another method of obtaining seaweed and soda ash is from the charter crew members. They sell a maximum of 20 seaweed and 10 soda ash, so you will have to world hop to get a lot of supplies fast. The best place to buy the supplies is in Catherby, because the ship is near a bank and a range. It is also good because the bank has a Deposit Box, which makes it easier to deposit the things you buy without having to put in your pin number every time you world hop. The Charter Store also sells 10 buckets of sand and 15 glassblowing pipes. No matter the amount in stock, everything costs 20 gp each.
There are 9 seaweed spawn points in Rellekka. Closest bank is in Keldagrim, Seers Village, or Etceteria (next to Miscellania).
If your house is located in Rellekka and you have a butler, then going to your house and letting the butler take the seaweed to the bank is the fastest method, keep in mind that letting your butler take items to the bank will cost you money, meaning that you can carry 1 less seaweed.
Travel Tips
You can get to the seaweed 3 main ways:
- Teleport to Camelot and run North towards the Keldagrim entrance.
- Use the Enchanted Lyre from the Fremennik Trials quest, then run North-East around the city towards the Keldagrim entrance.
- Go to the entrance to the path under White Wolf Mountain, purchase a Cart ticket for 100gp and take a ride to Keldagrim. Talk to the Dwarven Boatman at the North end of the city to go back to the entrance to Keldagrim. Exit the small hole and travel North to the seaweed. In any case, the seaweed is just North of the entrance to Keldagrim.
Banking
You can bank either at Seers Village, Keldagrim, or Etceteria.
For the Seers Village bank, travel South-West from the seaweed spawn point to the southern bridge. Follow the path to the bank in Seers Village. You can also use the Camelot Teleport (1 law and 5 air runes).
For the Keldagrim bank, travel South-East from the seaweed spawn point to the Keldagrim Entrance. Once inside, enter the hole that will take you Keldagrim. Speak to the Dwarven Boatman to enter the city proper. You will need to cross the bridge at the North end of the city. The Bank will be on the West side of the city.
For the Etceteria bank, run South-West from the seaweed spawns to the entrance to Rellekka. Go North to the docks and take the boat to the Miscellania. Head North-East over the bridge to Etceteria. The bank is in the North-East corner of the island.
Special Banking Tips for Rellekka
If you have not finished the Fremennik Trials quest, you can bank your entire inventory with Peer the Seer. However, this does not work once your have completed the quest.
There are 8 seaweed spawn points on Entrana. Closest bank is in Draynor Village. Or, using lodestones, you can take the ship from Entrana and teleport back to the Port Sarim lodestone, as there is a bank deposit box near to the ship to Entrana.
Travel Tips
You can get to the island by talking to Monks at Port Sarim. You will need to remove any weapon, armor, or rune before the monk will allow you to sail to the island.
There is one other way to get to Entrana, you will need a Glory amulet and you need to have acces to the Abyss.
Go Through the Law altar portal in the Abyss. Then exit the altar and gather 26 seaweed. Then take out your Glory Amulet and teleport back to Edgeville and repeat.
Once on Entrana, cross the bridge along the East side of the island then head to the West side. The seaweed spawn point is in the very North-West corner of the island.
Banking
The closest bank is on the Void Knight Outpost. The second to closest would be the Draynor Village bank.
You have two ways of getting back to the Draynor Village bank:
- Use your Amulet of Glory and teleport back to Draynor Village.
-
Backtrack your way from the seaweed spawn point to the docks on Entrana.
After talking to the monk, you can sail back to Port Sarim and take a quick run to the bank. (If you choose to sail back to Port Sarim, you may want to stop by the range in the South-East corner of Entrana. This way you can cook the seaweed into soda ash and save a some time).
There is basically only one good way to travel to the Void Knight Outpost, and that is to talk to Squire on the most south eastern dock in Port Sarim. Talk to him to travel to the island for free. Once on the island you can bank your seaweed and walk to the northern dock, just talk to Squire to travel back to port Sarim.
There are 3 seaweed spawn points in Shilo Village. Closest bank is in Shilo Village.
Travel Tips
There are four ways to get into Shilo Village (you must have completed the Shilo Village quest to enter this location):
- Take the boat from East Ardougne to Brimhaven for 30gp. You can then walk South from Brimhaven until you reach the bridge crossing the river at the Southern end of the island. Cross the bridge and continue walking East. Talk to Mosol at the entrance to Shilo Village to get in without dealing with the Undead. You can also talk to Vogroy/Hajedy just South-East from the dock. He will take you to Shilo Village for a small fee (this changes depending on the amount of gold you have on you. If you have 10gp, the trip costs 10gp. If you have 1000gp, the trip costs 58gp).
- Use your Amulet of Glory and teleport to Karamja. Head West around the volcano until you reach the gate into Brimhaven. You can walk West then South around Brimhaven to Shilo Village. You can also walk North-West from the Brimhaven entrance gate and talk to Vogroy/Hajedy and ride to Shilo.
- For 30gp, you can take the boat from Port Sarim to Karamja. You will end up at the dock on the far West side of Karamja. walk North West around the volcano to the gate to Brimhaven. You can either walk to Shilo or talk to Vogroy/Hajedy and ride.
-
You can also get to Shilo Village via the Gnome Gliders (after you have completed the Grand Tree quest).
You will need to either start from Ta Quir Priw (Grand Tree) or take one of the other gliders to this starting point.
You will then need to take the glider to Gandius (Karamja). You will land on the far West side of the island. From here on you need to walk North-West to the log that crosses the river. Once across, you will need to walk South-West to the bridge that crosses the river west of the Shilo Village.
Follow the path West from the bridge and talk to Mosol at the entrance to Shilo Village to get in without dealing with the Undead.
Banking
The closest bank is inside Shilo Village.
The bank is on the South end of the village. You just need to cross the bridge inside Shilo Village and then head South-East to the bank. Although this area has the closest proximity to a bank, most people do not use it due to the small number of seaweed spawn points.
Travel Tips
For this spot to be usable, you must have completed the Swan Song quest.
Since you have completed the quest, you already know that you need to talk to Kathy Corkat to get to the Piscatoris Fishing Colony.
Kathy is located outside along the West side of the Tree Gnome Stronghold.
There are 3 main ways to get to Kathy:
- Use either the Varrock or Tree Gnome Village Spirit Tree to transport to the Tree Gnome Stronghold. Then run South out the exit and follow the fence around the Stronghold West then North until you run into Kathy.
- Use any of the Gnome Gliders to fly into the Grand Tree. Climb down the ladder and exit the tree. Then run South out the exit and follow the fence around the Stronghold West then North until you run into Kathy.
- Teleport to Ardougne. Take the North city exit on the West side of the river. Travel North West until you come to the fence around the Stronghold. Follow the fence around the West side of the Tree Gnome Stronghold then North until you run into Kathy. In any case, talk to Kathy to travel to the Colony.
Banking
Banking in Piscatoris is simple. Just head to the center of town and talk to Arnold Lydspor.
Big Net Fishing
You can also obtain seaweed whilst Big Net fishing, this is totally random. It is not a fast method as you catch more fish than seaweed, everytime you have a full inventory you will have to drop all the fish and get another full inventory. Per inventory full you catch about 2 seaweed, this is the average amount which means that you might not get any seaweed in 2 inventories full of Big Net fishing.
Karamja Beaches
You can find seaweed all over the Karamja beaches.
On the map you can see the seaweed spawns are not very close to each other which means your going to have to walk or run a lot to get the seaweed fast.
There are many ways to get to Karamja and I'm only going to list the most commen used ones:
- Use your Amulet of Glory and teleport to karamja, walk to the south part and start gathering seaweed.
-
You can also take the boat from Ardougne to Brimhaven, this will cost you 30 gp.
Once on the dock in Brimhaven you can Walk to the south part of Karamja where the seaweed is. - Take the boat from port Sarim to the north-west side of Karamja (the non-members part), this will also cost you 30 gp. You are going to have to walk a pretty long distance to get to the southern part of Karamja where the seaweed is.
Monster Drops
The following monsters drop seaweed:
- Dagannoth (level 90)
- Dagannoth (level 74)
- Dagannoth (level 92)
- Dagannoth spawn (level 42)
- Mogre (level 60)
- Rock crab (level 13)
- Rock lobster (level 127)
- Sea Snake Hatchling (level 62)
- Sea Snake Young (level 90)
There are 4 places to obtain the sand you will need: Rellekka, Entrana, Yanille, or Zanaris (Lost City).
As a bonus, you can get 84 buckets of sand delivered to your bank account once a day if you have completed the Hand in the Sand quest.
You will need to talk to Bert each day to get the sand delivered.
Before you run off and start collecting sand, you will need to know where the closest bank is.
Travel Tips
You can get to the Rellekka sand pit 3 main ways.
- Teleport to Camelot and run North toward the Rellekka entrance (requires 1 law and 5 air runes).
- Use the Enchanted Lyre from the Fremennik Trials quest, then run North-East around the city towards the Keldagrim entrance.
-
Go to the entrance to the path under White Wolf Mountain, purchase a Cart ticket for 100gp and take a ride to Keldagrim.
Talk to the Dwarven Boatman at the North end of the city to go back to the entrance to Keldagrim.
Exit the small hole and travel South-West to the entrance to Rellekka.
In any case, the sand pit is just North of the Main Hall and West of the Mining area (a little south of the Rock Grabs - level 13).
Banking
You can bank either at Seers Village, Keldagrim or Etceteria.
For the Seers Village bank, travel South from the seaweed/sand spot to the southern bridge.
Follow the path to the bank in Seers Village. You can also use the Camelot Teleport (1 law and 5 air runes).
For the Keldagrim bank, travel around the fence and head North-East to the Keldagrim Entrance.
If you have not finshed the Fremennik Trials quest, you can bank your entire inventory with Peer the Seer.
However, this does not work once your have completed the quest.
Travel Tips
The only way to get to the island is by talking to Monks at Port Sarim.
You will need to remove all the weapon and armor (you cannot keep it in your inventory either) before the monk will allow you to sail to the island.
Once on Entrana, just head North-West from the docks and you will reach the sand pit along the road.
Banking
The closest bank is in Draynor Village.
You have two ways for getting back to the bank:
- Use your Amulet of Glory and teleport back to Draynor Village.
-
Head South back to the docks on Entrana.
After talking to the monk, you can sail back to Port Sarim and take a quick run to the bank.
Travel Tips
There are three primary ways to get to the sand pits in Yanille:
-
Cast the Watchtower teleport and climb down the tower stairs.
Follow the wall East then a little South one of the entrances to Yanille.
Enter the city and follow the path West. Before you reach the other entrance, head North and you will find the sand pit. -
Use a charge from a Duel Ring and teleport to Castle Wars.
Once you cross the bridge to the South, head North East to through the Ogres and to one of the Yanille entrances.
Head North from this entrance and you will find the sand pit. -
You can also get to Yanille via the Gnome Gliders (after you have completed the Grand Tree quest).
You will need to either start from Ta Quir Priw (Grand Tree) or take one of the other gliders to this starting point.
You will then need to take the glider to Lemantolly (Feldip Hills). You will land towards the West side of Feldip Hills.
Head North past Gu'Tanoth and use the West entrance to Yanille. Head North from this entrance and you will find the sand pit.
In any case, just get to Yanille and head to the North West corner of the city.
The sand pit is North of the West entrance and West of Bert's house. You can't miss it.
Banking
Banking in Yanille is simple. Just head East from the sand pit to the Bank on the East side of the city.
Travel Tips
Traveling to Zanaris is only possible if you have completed the Lost City quest and are wielding a Dramen Staff.
The entrance to the city is located at the South end of Lumbridge Swamp, East of the Lumbridge dungeon entrance.
There are two primary ways to reach the city entrance:
-
Use a charge for your Amulet of Glory and teleport to Draynor Village.
Head South-East from the teleport spot into Lumbridge Swamp. -
Teleport to the Lumbridge Castle (or use a charge form a Dueling Ring and run to the castle) and head West along the path around the castle wall.
Once you pass the end of the fence on the South side of the path (you should just be able to see the fence area around the Draynor Jail area), head South-East around the fence.
In either case, head South-East through the swamp.
The entrance to Zanaris is between the Lumbridge Dungeon entrance and the Lumbridge mining area. -
You can also take use of the Abyss and enter the cosmic portal (inside the Abyss).
Once in the Cosmic alter you exit it and you will be in the Lost City. Just walk the path north and you will walk into the sandpit.
Banking
Banking in Zanaris is simple. Just head West from the sand pit to the Bank in the North-West corner of the city.
- Water - (56 Magic Required)
- - Fire - (63 Magic Required)
Both the Fire and Water Obelisk require you to travel through the Taverley Dungeon.
There are two common ways for getting to the Dungeon:
-
Teleport to Burthorpe using a charge from your Games Necklace.
Then just run South to the Dungeon entrance. -
Teleport to Falador. Head around the West Bank to the broken wall.
Climb over the broken wall and head North-West to the dungeon entrance.
Either way you will need to carry either your Dusty Key or your Key Ring with it attached. Since you will be running past several patches of strong monsters, it is recommended that you wear your armor and anti-dragon shield. This will help as you run past the creatures so your take minimum damage. Also note that you will be passing several Poison Spiders along the way. You can usually run past them without getting poisoned, but there is no guarantee.
Tips
If you have level 70 Agility or higher, you can use the Pipe Agility shortcut just East of the stairs you use to enter and exit the dungeon. If you have level 80 Agility or higher, you can use the Floor Spine Agility shortcut just West of the stairs you use to enter and exit the dungeon.
This will take you directly into the Poison Spider area. Both shortcuts allow you to avoid carrying the Dusty Key as you travel and will cut down on the traveling time.
Since it is a long run through the dungeon, you may want to bring a teleport item along with you. This may help save some time running back and forth through the dungeon.
A common idea is to wear a charged Amulet of Glory. Once you have enchanted the orbs and used up all of the runes, remove your Amulet of Glory and teleport (Edgeville or Draynor Village are the most common). Deposit your enchanted orbs and pull out runes to teleport to Falador. Gather your supplies from the Falador West Bank and head back to Taverley Dungeon. Repeat the process as many times as you need.
For the Water Obelisk, follow the BLUE path on the map above.
Head to the Taverley Dungeon entrance just South of Taverley. Enter the dungeon and run North until you reach the gate on the East wall with the Suits of Armor in front. Go through the gate and continue through the South gate at the Cauldron of Thunder. Follow the path through the Black Knights, Magic Axes and the Poison Scorpions. Take the bridge to the Chaos Dwarves and head North through the Lesser Demons. Use your Dusty Key on the gate and run West through the Blue and Baby Blue Dragons. Head South to the next set of Baby Blue Dragons and the Lava Eel fishing spot. Continue North past the Black Demons. Once you pass the Black Demons, head North-West through the area with the Poison Spiders to the opening in the wall North of the Monks of Zamorak and South of the Black Dragons. Head East past the Black Dragons and climb up the ladder to the Water Obelisk.
For the Fire Obelisk, follow the BLUE path to the RED path on the map.
Head West past the Black Dragons to the Fire Obelisk.
Items to bring
- Armor
- Fire/Water Staff or Battestaff
- Anti-Dragon Shield
- Dusty Key (only if you don't have level 70 Agility or above)
- 78 Cosmic Runes
- 26 Orbs
- Teleport Item
Alternative ways for obtaining Fire and Water Orbs
Fire Orbs:
- Pickpocket Gnomes (level 75 thieving required)
- Pickpocket Hero (level 80 thieving required)
- Drops from Killerwatts (Level 55 - Slayer Boots and Level 37 Slayer required)
Water Orbs:
- Dropped by Sea Snakes; you must have completed the Royal Troube quest to gain acces to their location.
- Earth - (60 Magic Required)
- Air - (66 Magic Required)
Both the Earth and Air Obelisk require you to run through the Wilderness side of the Edgeville Dungeon. Since you will be running past several patches of strong monsters, it is recommended that you wear some decent armor. You may not want to bring your best armor as both the earth and air obelisks are in the Wilderness. Also note that you will be passing several Poison Spiders along the way to the Earth Obelisk. You can usually run past them without getting poisoned, but there is no guarantee.
Since this is part of the Wilderness, there is a potential risk of running into a Player Killer. However, the farthest into the Wilderness you will travel is Level 5 and that is only for a moment. Most of your Wilderness time will be in Level 1-3. If this still worries you, you may want to bring along a teleport item to help you escape.
Then run back to the Edgeville bank, it is not that long so most crafters simply run or walk back to the bank. If you have several Amulets of Glory, you could use them to teleport back to Edgeville. This will save you a little time.
For the Earth Obelisk, follow the RED path on the map above.
Open the gate to the Wilderness side of the Edgeville Dungeon. Run North-West through the area with the Thugs and Chaos Druids. Open the gate between the Chaos Druids and the Skeletons. Follow the path North-West past the Black Demons and then South past Chronozon and the Poison Spiders. Stand South of the Earth Obelisk and you will be safe from attack.
For the Air Obelisk, follow the RED path to the WHITE path on the map above.
Open the gate to the Wilderness side of the Edgeville Dungeon. Run North-West through the Thugs and Chaos Druids. Open the gate between the Chaos Druids and the Skeletons. Follow the path North-West past the Black Demons and then North to the stairs. Now you just climb the stairs at the end of the path to enter the Air Obelisk.
Items to bring
- Armor
- Earth/Air Staff or Battlestaff
- 81 Cosmic Runes
- 27 Orbs
- Teleport Item (optional)
You can purchase battlestaffs in Zaff's Staff Shop in Varrock, Cadarn district in Prifddinas, and from Baby yaga on Lunar Isle.
The amount sold in Varrock depends on how much progress you have made in the Varrock Achievement Diaries.. The more you have done the more he will sell.
As a note, most Battlestaff crafters wait to purchase the staffs until they are ready to assemble them due to the costs. The prices are shown below.
Number of Battlestaffs in stock | Cost |
5 | 7,000 gp |
4 | 7,140 gp |
3 | 7,280 gp |
2 | 7,420 gp |
1 | 7,560 gp |
The average price is 7280gp each after purchasing 5 staffs.
Assembling and Turning the Battlestaffs into Cash
Requirements
- Water Battlestaff: Level 54 Crafting.
- Earth Battlestaff: Level 58 Crafting.
- Fire Battlestaff: Level 62 Crafting.
- Air Battlestaff: Level 66 Crafting.
Making the Battle Staff is easy. Simply "Use" the enchanted orb with the basic battlestaff to assemble them. It is recommended that you "Use" the orb with the staff rather than the other way around. The default action for the staff is "Wield". Repeat the process, if you have enough money purchase more staffs. If not, cast High Alchemy (5 fire and one nature rune, it is recommended that you wear a fire (battle) staff) on the Elemental Battlestaffs you just made and then repeat the process (each Elemental Battle Staff high alchemy's for 9,300gp). Keep up this process until you run out of orbs.
By doing all of this, you have gained experience in Magic (from casting the Enchant Orb and High Alchemy spells), experience in Crafting (from assembling the Elemental Battle Staffs) and hopefully a decent amount of gp.
If you collect or create all of the items needed for this process, your profit will be 2,020gp or 2280gp per staff, depending on where you purchased the basic battlestaff.
There are things you can do to speed up the creating process.
However, each one requires you to cut into you potential profits.
But at over 2,000gp profit from each staff, you may find that you do not worry about cutting into your profit margin.
- Buy seaweed from other players. Not a bad idea since obtaining the seaweed can be very time consuming. Prices seem to range from 200gp - 300gp each.
-
Buy sand from other players.
Potentially a time saver, but with Bert capable of adding 84 buckets of sand to your bank every day, it may not be worth the cost.
Prices seem to range from 200gp - 300gp each. - Buy uncharged orbs from other players. This cuts your time needs quite a bit. However, you will find most players sell these for around 1,000 gp (1k) per orb. This will save you time but are you willing to cut your profit in half?
- Buy your cosmic runes from other players or rune stores. The cosmic rune crafting run can get a little boring. You can purchase these in a rune store for as low as 62 gp each. However, the store carries these in low quantities which may force you into purchasing the cosmic runes from other players. On average, players tend to sell cosmic runes for 100-150gp each.
- Buy your nature runes from other players or rune stores. You can purchase these in a rune store for as low as 225gp each. However, the store carries these in a maximum quantity of 100. If you need more, this may force you into purchasing the nature runes from other players. On average, players tend to sell nature runes for 300-350gp each.
So assuming you do decide to purchase all of the items from other players, let's see what happens to your profit margin.
Making All Raw Materials Yourself
9,300gp (High Alchemy amount) - 0 gp (Supplies) - 7,020gp (Average battle staff price from the Wizards Guild) = 2,280 gp profit.
Buying All Raw Materials
Supplies: 300 gp (seaweed) + 300 gp (sand) + 450 gp (Cosmic runes) + 350 (Nature runes) = 1,400 gp.
9,300 gp (High Alchemy amount) - 1,400 gp (Supplies) - 7,020 gp (Average Battlestaff price from the Wizards Guild) = 880 gp profit.
Buying Orb and Other Raw Materials
Supplies: 1000 gp (Orbs) + 450 gp (Cosmic runes) + 350 gp (Nature runes) = 1,800 gp.
9,300gp (High Alch amount) - 1,800gp (Supplies) - 7,020gp (Average battle staff price from the Wizard Guild) = 480gp Profit.
As you can see, buying the supplies can drastically cut into your profits.
After all, your the one who has to decide, do you want more profit, or spend less time gathering supplies?
Buying Runes And Making The Rest
Supplies:450 gp (Cosmic runes) + 350 gp(Nature runes) = 800 gp. 9,300 gp (High Alchemy amount) - 800 gp (Supplies) - 7,020 gp (Average Battlestaff price from the Wizards Guild) = 1,480 gp profit. This Special Report was written by Irish Buddha.
