The first dyes you will likely discover in game are the standard dyes. These dyes are usually not locked behind quests and can be made. To create the Primary colors, you will need to give the ingredients to Aggie or Ali the Dyer along with 5 coins; the secondary colors can be mixed yourself. They are most commonly used to dye normal Capes and Goblin mail (presented in the table below), though a few of the dyes can be used for other purposes (See each dye for more information).

Pink dye can be created after completion of Hand in the Sand. Unlike the other dyes, you do not need to pay someone for its initial creation. Simply use Redberries on a Bottled water to create Redberry juice, then add White berries to create the dye. After completion of the quest, you will be able to purchase Pink dye from Betty for 20 Coins. This dye can be used on the following items:
- Cape - Cape (pink)
- Goblin mail (during Land of the Goblins) - Pink goblin mail
- Origami balloon (during Enlightened Journey)
- Lantern lens (only during Hand in the Sand and While Guthix Sleeps) - Rose-tinted lens
- Small rune pouch - Small rune pouch (pink)
- Large rune pouch - Large rune pouch (pink)
- Vorago (only on World 62, this will turn him into Voraga – his color is the only change)
Be aware that creating a Cape (pink) is a requirement for the Hard Falador task set.
Black mushroom ink is the only dye can be made without paying anyone at all. It is created by grinding a Black mushroom with an empty vial in your inventory. If you do not have a vial, you will still grind the mushroom, but not end up with the ink. This dye can be used on the following items:
- Cape - this item starts black, but can be redyed as such
- Goblin mail (during Land of the Goblins) - Black goblin mail
- Origami balloon (during Enlightened Journey)
- Small rune pouch - Small rune pouch (black)
- Large rune pouch - Large rune pouch (black)
- Silverlight (during Shadow of the Storm and Dimension of Disaster) - Silverlight (black)
- Golem program (created during The Golem)
Black mushroom ink is also used during Some Like It Cold.
The last item is more of a bleach than a normal dye. Unlike normal dye as well, it is only present during the associated quest and you will need to give Aggie the Whitefish (needed to make the “dye”) and the Goblin mail so she can bleach it for you.
The following quests make use of 1 or more of the dyes mentioned above:
- Dimension of Disaster
- Eagles' Peak
- Enlightened Journey
- Ghosts Ahoy
- Goblin Diplomacy
- The Golem
- Hand in the Sand
- Land of the Goblins
- Mourning's Ends Part I
- Recipe for Disaster
- Some Like It Cold
- Shadow of the Storm
In addition to the dyes that can be purchased and made in quests and normal day to day activities, there are also dyes that can only be found by opening a Hard, Elite, or Master Reward casket from completing the appropriate level Treasure Trail. As general rules: these dyes can only be used on level 90+ armor and weaponry, dyeing these items makes them untradeable, items will still degrade and be repairable as normal(if they degraded), and the dyeing cannot be undone - unless lost in a PVP battle (in which case, it will be dropped as a broken version of the appropriate armor/weapon). Note that dyed items can still be Augmented, though the table below will not present how they look.
Treasure trail dyes include:
